The Link is here for our broader local community as well as a space for gathering and social connection, intergenerational sharing and enjoyment, in addition to small functions and events.
In conjunction with Mental Health and National Gardening Week (October 10-14) we opened The Link gates and invited the community to join us for a week of celebration filled with music, intergenerational art exhibitions, community, and fun.
The “official “opening ceremony of The Link took place with Director of Mission and Master of Ceremonies Matt Digges introducing a Welcome to Country by Aunty Jenny Skinner, addresses from CEO Michael Darragh and Ambassador for National Gardening Week George Hoad AM, and a blessing by Fr Michael Alcock, ably assisted by Zippy.
Cutting the ribbon followed, with support from Sawtell Catholic Care Board Chairman David Robson, Marian Grove resident Frank Kennedy and Coffs Harbour Mayor Paul Amos. The morning concluded with cultural dances and a smoking ceremony by the Giingan Dancers.
Both ‘The Art of Ageing’ travelling photography exhibition, and the ‘Young at Art’ intergenerational project exhibition opened in the Pavilion to rave reviews.
The Bungalows hosted the Youngster Co., and workshops from Coffs Artisan Cooking School.
Perfomances throughout the week included two sessions by the Marian Grove Ukulele Group, Sawtell Ukulele Group, and two Mens Shed bands.
Thank you to everyone who attended and we hope residents and their families continue to enjoy this space.
The Link is open to the public Monday to Saturday from 8.30am.
