Refugee Week is Australia’s annual recognition of the positive contributions made to Australian society by refugees and the stories of the individuals who seek refuge here.
This year SCC’s Link Team were honoured to host a Welcome Project event organised by SSI (Settlement Services International). This project builds a sense of belonging and connection to an unfamiliar area, reducing fears by encouraging community cohesion while welcoming some of our newest community members to Coffs Harbour and the Sawtell area in particular.
We were also privileged to witness the launch of Stories of Welcome- an emerging artist refugee mentorship project that brings together local indigenous and refugee stories in an exciting multimedia collaboration.
Over 50 people enjoyed a variety of delicious traditional foods prepared by the dedicated SSI staff, dancing and music from different countries and some delightful winter sunshine.
